Magic Jack

Does anyone have one of these. Several weeks ago I told my DH that we need to have our land line disconnected and we should use our cell phones. Well that is what we did and now I miss my house phone badly.

I don't mind using my cell but I I really miss my home phone.

If anyone is using the Magic Jack please let me know how you feel about it. I looked it up last night and it looks like a great device. I did ask Diane from A Primitive Journey what she thought about it and she says she LOVES it.

Anyways, I know you plug it into us USB on your computer and plug a phone into the device and then you have free local, long distance, voice mail, call waiting and other features for $19.95 a YEAR once you purchase the device.

Thanks in advance

Retha

  1. Good Morning...
My brother-in-law has been using this for a couple of months and thinks it's a wonderful thing. He been telling my husband we should have one too...but at this time we wouldn't be able to keep our same phone number. I think he said sometime later this year that option will be available. It certainly saves $$$.

  5. I havd had my MJ since Aug 08 and love it. I have recommended it to many friends and they love it too. SOME people have had problems but I have not.
A WONDERFUL source of info is http://www.magicjacksupport.com/
I did reasearch on it for a yr before I bought it. You can now buy it at Best Buy, Radio Shack and Wal-Mart. So easy to return IF you do have a problem.
I also HIGHLY recommend a POWERED USB hub. http://www.windmilltrading.com/USBProds/4_Port_AC_Powered_USB_Hub_2000mA_HUB-4U2ABK.htm
Just tell Richard, Joe Sica sent you. He is a good guy and really takes care of his customers. Mine worked fine without the hub, BUT I was going to add a few more devices to my USB ports and the MJ wants as much power as it can get and when you have a lot of USB devices it can get tricky.
Again I LOVE mine and no longer have a land line becuase of it.
Feel free to email me at bitstop@hotmail.com and I will give you my # so you can call me and hear for yourself..

  7. Very welcome Retha...Let me know how it works for you.
What I did to insure it worked fine was to stop all programs except my firewall. ESPECIALLY your Anti Virus program.

  8. I meant to stop all programs PRIOR to plugging in the device and installing its software. DUH :)

  9. One more thing. You HAVE to have a high speed ( DSL, Cable) internet connection. It will NOT work with dial up. Also it only works with XP and Vista.
